Thursday night footy served up an intriguing clash as the Bulldogs looked to find some momentum to take into the finals against a Panthers side that included four debutants as Ivan Cleary opted to rest 16 frontline players.

The Bulldogs did enough in the end to get home by 24 points to secure a top-four finish for the first time since 2012 but the win was soured by an ankle injury to winger Jacob Kiraz.

Bulldogs coach Cameron Ciraldo said post-match that Enari Tuala, Jethro Rinakama or Blake Wilson could step up should Kiraz be sidelined.

"All really good candidates for us there. I'm really happy with the depth we've built up this year," coach Cameron Ciraldo said.

"We've got guys fighting for NRL spots, those guys play Saturday night [in NSW Cup]."

Fullback Daine Laurie was a standout for the Panthers with 99 run metres, four tackle breaks, a line break and a try assist with a magical pass for Paul Alamoti.

Debutant David Fale was also impressive for the Panthers with 10 runs for 137 metres and seven tackle breaks in the centres.
